What is FASTag?

FASTag is a device that employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for making toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it. It is affixed on the windscreen of the vehicle and enables automatic deduction of toll charges.

FASTag was introduced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) program to ensure seamless, cashless toll payment across India.

As per the Government of India mandate, FASTag is mandatory for all vehicles since February 2021. Without FASTag, you will be charged double the toll amount at every toll plaza.

Is FASTag mandatory for all vehicles?

Yes, FASTag is mandatory for all four-wheeler vehicles in India since February 15, 2021, as per the order by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. Vehicles without FASTag are charged double the toll fee at all NHAI toll plazas.

How long is FASTag valid?

FASTag is valid for 5 years from the date of issuance. You can recharge it unlimited times during this period. After 5 years, you need to get a new FASTag.

Can I use one FASTag for multiple vehicles?

No, each FASTag is linked to a specific vehicle's registration number. You need a separate FASTag for each vehicle. However, one bank account can have multiple FASTags linked to it.

How to recharge my FASTag?

You can recharge your FASTag through multiple channels — Paytm App, Airtel Thanks App, Google Pay, PhonePe, Net Banking, or through your issuer bank's app. Minimum recharge is ₹100 and maximum balance limit is ₹1,00,000.

What happens if my FASTag balance is zero?

If your FASTag balance is insufficient, you will need to pay the toll in cash and may be charged double the toll amount. It's recommended to keep a minimum balance of ₹200 in your FASTag account at all times.
